Getting from Siem Reap to the village pier.
| How | Time | Cost | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Car: Hire a tuk-tuk from Siem Reap to the Kampong Phluk boat pier | 45-60 minutes | $15-$25 round trip | The driver will wait for you at the pier while you take the boat tour; ensure the total price covers round-trip transport and waiting time. |
| Car: Private air-conditioned taxi or car from Siem Reap | 45-50 minutes | $30-$50 round trip | A more comfortable option than a tuk-tuk, especially for groups or during the hot/rainy seasons. |
| Tour: Join a guided half-day group or private tour from Siem Reap | 4-5 hours total | $35-$60+ per person | Usually includes hotel pickup, transport, the main boat ticket, community fee, and an English-speaking guide. Often the easiest way to avoid scams. |
| Boat: Motorized wooden boat from the Kampong Phluk pier through the village | 1.5 to 2 hours | $20-$25 | This is the mandatory mode of transport once you arrive at the pier to actually see the stilted village and reach the lake. |

The best time to visit is during the wet season, from August to January. High water levels allow boats to navigate easily through the village and into the flooded forest. If you visit between September and November, the water rises right up to the floorboards of the stilted houses. During the dry season, the massive 6-meter stilts are fully exposed, and reaching the boats requires some walking.

Respecting the community
Kampong Phluk is a functioning residential village. Dress modestly by covering your shoulders and knees. This is especially important if you step out to visit the village pagoda. Ask for permission before taking close-up photographs of local residents.
Avoid buying expensive supplies for schools from high-pressure vendors on the lake, as this is a known tourist trap. Do not give money or candy directly to children. If you want to help, donate to official NGOs instead. Read more about Packing and Dress.
